Angela Mae-Steele Powell

Angela Mae-Steele Powell, age 57, of Hastings, passed away at home on December 31, 2018 after a long battle with Breast Cancer. She was born March 25, 1961 to Eldon and Reta Steele at the Blue Earth Hospital in Blue Earth, Minnesota. Angie graduated from Blue Earth High School with the class of 1979. After graduation, she and a couple of friends traveled to Yellowstone National Park and worked for the park service that summer. After returning to Blue Earth she worked at Telex Communications. She moved to Minneapolis and worked in the kitchen at the University of Minnesota, which is where she met her husband, David. She then started a new job at Patterson Dental, first working in the kitchen and later transferring to an office job. Angie was also a team member at the Hastings YMCA for many years. Angie and David were united in marriage on January 1, 2004. She will be remembered for her love of dogs, her infectious laugh, and the incredible impact she had on all of those lucky enough to have been a part of her life. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Medford Lois "Billie" Anderson; Alton Gladys Steele; uncles, Ramon Steele; Vernon Steele; cousin, Yankten Anderson. Angie is survived by her husband, David Powell; parents; brothers, Lyndon (Diane) of Elko, MN, and Sheldon (Rene) of Grand Meadow, MN; many aunts, uncles, cousins and nieces, Jen (Mark) Summe of Corcoran, MN and Jessica Steele of New Hope, MN; great nephew, Judah Summe and great niece, Remi; step children, Shawn Powell of St. Paul, MN; Christine Powell of Bloomington, MN; step grandson, Monroe Powell. Memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 5, 2019, at the Caturia, Smidt Starkson Funeral Home Crematory in Hastings, with a visitation to follow until 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages you to consider donating to a charity of your choice in memory of Angie.
