Alyssa "Aly" Ruth Porter

September 7, 1996 — November 23, 2019

Aly left the world too soon after a car accident in Iowa on Saturday, November 23rd, 2019 while on her way home to see her family in Hastings. She was born in St. Paul, Minnesota on September 7th, 1996, the oldest of three girls to Robert “Rob” Porter and Brenda (Johnson) Porter. She graduated from Hastings High School in 2015 and went on to attend Iowa State University in Ames, IA. When Aly was 16 years old, she knew what career path she wanted to pursue. She was going to become a psychologist, where she was wanting to help pre-teens and teenagers. Her ultimate goal was to open her own practice and bring in animals from the humane society to act as therapy animals with the hopes of them being adopted. She never diverted from this dream. As she was pursuing her major she decided that she enjoyed the Spanish language so why not make that her minor. As a full time student, Aly also managed to work at Cold Stone Creamery at their Ames Iowa location. While employed there, she met some people who became her dear friends. While at Iowa State, she met the absolute love of her life, Jet Jacobs, as she was his. They were the perfect match. She and Jet both loved animals, so much that they decided to start looking at the animal shelter for a dog. They found a dog that they fell in love with, however, there was a long list of people who also wanted this precious dog. They never thought they would be lucky to adopt him. However, that call came and they asked if they could be there to get him within 2 hours and they jumped at the chance. They scrambled to get everything they needed to get him and off they went. Malachi became their dog and became the center of their family. Aly was such planner and was enjoying the time planning for their wedding and she and Jet were looking forward to starting the next chapter in their lives. Aly was the oldest of the 3 girls, then came Becky and then came Leah. Aly was always so proud of her sisters and loved them dearly. She treasured her time that she was able to spend with them, whether is was hanging out at the house, or talking on the phone, these things she held dearly to her heart. Aly’s hobbies included painting, which she had such a natural talent for, playing video games and followed in her dad’s footsteps with her love of music. She loved watching The Lord of The Rings, watching the Vikings football games and then talking to her dad about the game. She also had a love of tattoo’s, she had 2 of them and was enjoying her time coming up with future tattoo designs. She loved the tattoo that her dad, Rob, had done on his left arm. She loved how each design symbolizes each girl in their own special way. She is preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Duane and Erla Johnson and her paternal grandfather, Robert ( Bob) Porter. Aly will be dearly missed by her loving parents Rob and Brenda Porter of Hastings; her devoted fiancé Jet Jacobs of Iowa; her sisters Becky and Leah Porter of Hastings; her paternal grandmother, Janice Porter of Hastings; her uncles Dave (Jennie Klennert) Johnson of Cannon Falls, Jeremy Porter of Hastings and cousin, Travis Johnson and many other family and friends. Aly was a light in everyone’s lives and will be missed by all who knew her. There will be a service to celebrate Aly’s life at 1:00 pm on Sunday, December 8, 2019 at Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel, 3075 Vermillion Street, Hastings with services being led by Pastor Julie Kocher of Resurrection Methodist Church. The family cordially invites friends to join them for a visitation from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm and to a reception immediately following the service, all at the funeral home. Since Aly loved animals so much, her family is asking that any donation be made to the Animal Ark of Hastings. Arrangements are being completed by Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel of Hastings.
