Alyce Irma Swanson

Alyce Irma Swanson was born on June 19, 1929 to Agnes Josephine Stransky and Guinn Winfield Minter in Milton Township near Stewartville Mn. Alyce attended school in a small one-room schoolhouse in Berne Mn with many of her siblings, Donald, Dick, Robert, Kenneth, Thomas, Junior, and sister, Gwendolyn.

Alyce met Virgil Swanson when they were both employed at the Hudson Manufacturing Company in Hastings. Alyce and Virgil fell in love and were married Feb 25, 1950. Together they had three sons, Blaine (Joanie), Loren (Denise) and Rollie (Gail). Alyce enjoyed the time she spent with her nine grandchildren: Cody, Kyle, Ben, Kellen, Steven, Andrew, Jeffrey, Lindsey and Patrick, and nine great grandchildren.

Alyce worked as a Pharmacy Tech at Johnson Drug, and Snyder Drug, before spending most of her career as a Pharmacy Tech at Regina Hospital where Alyce eventually retired. In Alyce's retirement years, Alyce and Virgil enjoyed camping, fishing, traveling, flea marketing and spending time with family and friends. After Virgil passed, Alyce continued her sewing, painting, gardening, and quilting. She was an incredible quilter and took pride in sharing her quilts with family members. Alyce loved watching her birds from her kitchen table and always made sure the feeders were full. If she wasn’t watching the birds, she had the cartoon channel on the TV and a Louis L’ Amour novel could always be found nearby.

Alyce always enjoyed her relationship with Our Saviors Lutheran Church and appreciated the kindness and support the church shared with her over the years. She passed away peacefully in the care of Benedictine Living Community on Sunday, April 19th, 2026. Sincere thanks and gratitude are extended to Brittany and the care team there. Alyce is preceded in death by her parents Agnes and Guinn, her husband Virgil, son Blaine, and many siblings.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, May 29, 2026 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, 400 West 9th Street, Hastings. A visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 am at the church, prior to the church service at 11:00 am. Please join the family for a lunch at the church immediately following the service.

Alyce and Virgil will be laid to rest at the Fort Snelling Cemetery, at a later date.
