Alice Johnson

Alice Johnson, age 93, of Ruth Home in Hastings, MN and formerly of Montevideo passed away Friday, January 2, 2009 in Hastings. Alice was born on March 14, 1915 in Swenoda Township, near Benson, MN the daughter of the late Albert and Gina (Haugen) Svea. She attended the rural Swenoda township schools. She married Ernest B. Johnson on August 18, 1936 at Benson, Minnesota. She was a homemaker and enjoyed spending time with her family, interior decorating and making craft items. In her early years, she was active in the Ladies Aide groups of Mandt and Jevnaker Lutheran Churches of rural Montevideo. After their retirement from farming north of Montevideo, Alice and Ernie moved into town. They enjoyed remodeling their homes and spent many evenings playing Bingo with their friends. Survivors include 2 sons; Arnold (Diane Bode) Johnson of Lakeville, Minnesota and Dennis (Juliet) Johnson of Hastings, Minnesota; and a daughter Sherry (Francis) Larson of Negaunee, Michigan; 1 brother Chester (Arlene) Svea of Benson, Minnesota; 8 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 1 great great granddaughter; along with many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ernest in 1999; her daughter-in-law Janice Johnson, 2 sisters Myrtle Peterson and Laura Nordby; 2 brothers Arthur and Clarence Svea and 3 infant siblings. Funeral services will be held at 6:00 PM Tuesday, January 6, 2009 at the Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home, Hastings, Minnesota. A visitation time will be held 1 hour before the service. Pastor Ed Frederick of St. Philip�s Lutheran Church of Hastings will officiate. Interment will take place in the Sunset Memorial Cemetery at Montevideo, Minnesota on Thursday, January 8, 2009 at 1:00 PM.
