Bill Ziemer William Wayne Ziemer, age 81, of Hastings, passed away peacefully May 16, 2022. He was born March 23, 1941, in St. Paul to Robert and Margurite Ziemer; the oldest of 6 children. He graduated from Harding High School with the class of 1959, a swimming, wrestling and football athlete. On September 5, 1964, he married Joan (Charbonneau); together they had 6 children. He moved his young family to Hastings in 1970. He thought Hastings was God’s country and absolutely loved Hastings. He loved traveling with family and friends. Weekends were for camping, and vacations were for traveling all over the country in his motorhome with his family. He loved Harleys and Mustangs. Many people knew him as “Wild Bill”. Bill was a 42-year employee of West Publishing (Thompson Reuter), and a 30-year employee of the Hastings Bus Company, a job he truly loved. The kids loved and respected him. He drove the vo-tech route for many years, then moved to Varsity sports where he drove for the wrestling, baseball, and soccer teams. “Zoomie” was also a volunteer Firefighter for the Hastings Fire Department for 10 years. He is preceded in death by his beautiful wife, Joan; son, Michael “Mickey”; brother, Jack; and brother-in-law, Tony Marrone. Bill is survived by his children, Jennifer, Suzanne (Cliff Harrington), James (Meg Garrido), Catherine (Phillip Patton), and Jonathan; grandchildren, Danielle, Jordan, Alex, Finn, William, Harrison, and Andrew; great grandchildren, Winslow and Fredrick; siblings, Bobby Ziemer, Janice Ziemer, Jill Marrone, and Scott Ziemer (Diane), and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, June 1, 2022, at 12 noon at Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel, 3075 Vermillion Street in Hastings. A visitation will be held from 10:00 am - 12 noon at the funeral home on Wednesday. A reception will be held immediately following the service. Interment, St Elizabeth Ann Seton Cemetery in Hastings.
