Wayne M. Nicklay

Wayne M. Nicklay, age 75, of Hastings died September 10, 2012 in Hastings.Wayne was born October 1, 1936 in Winona, MN to Mathew and Grayce (Potter) Nicklay, and grew up in the St. Charles area. He spent two years in the Army, married Betty Stoffel in 1960 and settled in Hastings. They had five children. After Betty died in 1971, Wayne married Cecelia McNab in 1973. He was a 3M employee for 51 years prior to retirement in March 2012. Wayne was a loyal Gopher Hockey fan and Hastings supporter. Above all, his family was his biggest love. He was preceded in death by his first wife Betty; his parents; and step-father Ted Soronsen. Wayne is survived by his wife Cecelia; children Steve (Dona) Nicklay and Lynne Webber (Tony Mitchell), all of Hastings, Dan (Lisa) Nicklay of Inver Grove Heights, Dave (DeAnn) Nicklay of Hastings, and Mike (Peggy) Nicklay of Minneapolis; also 14 grandchildren Kaylyn and Mathew Nicklay, Nicholas Herman (Melinda), John and Casey Webber, Ben and Jake Smith, Jimmy Nicklay, Lyndsay, Maiya and Jack Nicklay, Maddy, Will, and Joe Nicklay; sister Carol Rother of Bloomington. Visitation is Thursday, September 13, 2012 from 4:00-8:00 PM at the Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home, 201 E. Seventh St., Hastings and also 1 hour prior to the service. The Funeral Mass is 10:30am Friday, September 14 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2035 W. Fifteenth St., Hastings, officiated by Fr. James Perkl. Interment with Military Honors provided by the Hastings VFW Lyle Russell Post #1210will follow in the parish cemetery. His grandchildren are serving as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the American Cancer Society or Juvenile Diabetes Research.
