Wanda L. Gunter

Wanda L. Gunter, age 90 of Hastings, died peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Friday evening, March 26, 2021. Wanda L., the daughter of Andrew and Esther (Walker) Rothove, was born on September 30, 1930, in Farmington. Following her graduation from St. Peter's High School in Jefferson City, Missouri, Wanda was united in marriage to Elmer G. Gunter on September 17, 1950, in San Antonio, Texas. As a dedicated homemaker, Wanda was an excellent seamstress, baker, and cook. She made many dresses, blankets, and baked goods for family and friends over the years. While raising her children, Wanda worked at Novak's Care Center prior to becoming a cook at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic School, and later with the public schools. She also worked at Smead Mfg. for fifteen years prior to her retirement. Both she and Elmer later worked at Treasure Island later in life as well. Wanda was a dedicated member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, as well as the Regina Auxiliary. She enjoyed hosting her Sunday Family Dinners, volunteering whenever she could, and spending time with her dear friends and family. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Elmer; grandson, Nick Gunter; and by her siblings, Robert, Richard, LeRoy, Donna, and Howard. Wanda is survived by her children, Rick (Lou Ann) Gunter, Gary (Sue) Gunter, Dave (Diane) Gunter, Elmer "John" (Linda) Gunter, Tim (special friend, Julie Brunsberg) Gunter, Kathy (George) Meyers, Mark (Char) Gunter, Lori (Wayne) Hicks, Steve (Yvonne) Gunter and Cheryl (Gary) Regenscheid; 22 grandchildren and many great grandchildren; dear friend, Lorraine Humbert; and by many nieces, nephews and friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 19, 2021, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Hastings. A reception will follow the Mass at Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel, and private family interment will be held at the parish cemetery. Family and friends are cordially invited to a visitation from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 19, 2021, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. Jude's, American Diabetes Association, or to the donor's choice in memory of Wanda. Arrangements are being completed by Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel of Hastings.
