Walter N. Suchy

Walter N. Suchy, age 79 of Hastings, died Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at his home, surrounded by his family. Walter was born October 30, 1936 at Millerville, MN to Paul and Mary (Revering) Suchy. He served in the U.S. Army for two years and married Marilyn Smith on June 13, 1959 at St. Josephs Catholic Church in Red Wing. Walter worked for Armour and Company in South St. Paul for 25 years and Grist Mill in Lakeville prior to retirement and was a longtime member of the Hastings Knights of Columbus Council 1600. He enjoyed fishing, deer hunting and playing cards. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother LeRoy and sister Lorraine (Jim) Gluba. Walter is survived by his wife Marilyn; four sons, Gary (Mary) of Coon Rapids, Mark (Jody) of Hastings, Michael (Monica) of Farmington and Joseph (Tricia) of Prescott; nine grandchildren, Joshua (Sarah) Suchy, Krista (Cody) Lohse, Jennifer (Brett) Slunnaker, Jeff Grinnell, Alicia Suchy, Nicholas Suchy, Grant DeMars, Jayda Suchy and Jacob Suchy; three great grandchildren, Tyler, Jaxson and Tristan; brothers, Richard (Marlene), William (Lorraine), Paul (Gayle), John (Shirley), and Bernard (Eileen) Suchy; sisters, Mary Ann (Norbert) Wagner, Josephine (Bennett) Stich, Evelyn (Vernon) Klimek and Virginia (Myron) Koep; sister in law, Annette Suchy; also many nieces and nephews and friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 19, 2016, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2035 West Fifteenth St., Hastings, officiated by Fr. David Hennen. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home Cremation Services, 201 East Seventh Street, Hastings and one hour prior to Mass at the church. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery. His grandchildren will serve as pallbearers. Memorials are preferred to Progressive Supranuclear Palsy Research, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church or Hastings Family Service.
