Sr. Ursula D'Auteuil, age 97, of Hastings passed away September 9, 2011 at Regina Nursing Home in Hastings. Sr. Ursula was born on January 7, 1914, in Willimantic, Connecticut. She took her final vows with the Sisters of Charity of our Lady, Mother of Mercy in 1936. Sr. Ursula spent 45 years teaching in Connecticut before she came to Regina Medical Center in 1979 where her biological sister, Sr. Marie Therese was working. Sr. Ursula truly lived the motto of the Sisters of Charity, 'where there is a need, meet it' by helping out wherever she could. She scrubbed floors and worked in the nursing home, always looking for a job that needed to be completed. She provided many hours of companionship to the residents in the nursing home. However, helping the poor and vulnerable was also a very big part of Sister Ursula's life. She wasn't afraid of hard work. She could be found collecting soda cans and delivering the Pioneer Press newspaper to nursing home residents and others. Any money she collected from these adventures was given to charity. Sister Ursula also collected clothing for the needy and would send baby clothes to the missions. Some of the money she collected also went to help the local food shelf. We are very grateful Sr. Ursula answered God's call to be part of the mission work at Regina Medical Center, where she was for 42 years. Thank you Sister Ursula for teaching us the value of a penny and for teaching us the 'can do' attitude of helping out wherever you can. You have been a blessing to us and we are grateful you have greeted us with your warm and tender smile over the years. We will miss you.A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wed. (9/14) at 11:00 a.m. at Regina Memorial Chapel, 1175 Nininger Rd., Hastings. A Visitation will be held one hour prior to mass at Regina. Interment will be in St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Cemetery.
