Timothy A. Koob Sr.

Timothy A. "Pops" Koob Sr., age 66 of Red Wing, died unexpectedly Sunday, July 9, 2017, at Mayo Clinic Health Systems Red Wing. Timothy Alan was born March 24, 1951, in Edina, MN to Bill and Ethelyn (Berglund) Koob. He especially enjoyed spending time with his dad and brothers during their time in Cub Scouts and later in Boy Scouts. As a child, Tim was never afraid of a little adventure. He was known to hop trains from here to Florida, "borrow" a car or two, or even 200, or whatever else may have been in his path of life. Just before he turned 18, Tim decided to enlist in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War Conflict, where he served on the USS Manitowoc. After traveling all over the globe and touching every continent for three years, he was honorably discharged and moved to the west coast. Tim then met his soon to be wife, Angelica Tuncap, and her son, Sterling Thrasher. They added five additional children to complete their family. Throughout his life, Tim enjoyed camping, fishing, being outside and loved spending time with his grandchildren. He worked as a hydraulic mechanic and never settled down until he reached Red Wing, where he worked for ProAct prior to his retirement. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his children, Kirk Koob, Wyatt (Casey) Koob, Timothy Alan Koob Jr., Brenden Koob, Zanya Koob and Laura Bolland; his twenty eight grandchildren and one great grandchild; his siblings, Daniel Koob, Janet Koob, and Thomas Koob; and niece, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Funeral services will be held 11:30 a.m. Thursday, July 13, 2017, at Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home Cremation Services of Hastings, with visitation one hour prior to the service also at the funeral home. Interment with Honors will be held at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis. Arrangements are being completed by Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home Cremation Services of Hastings.
