Thomas E. Niederkorn

March 27, 1938 — December 12, 2020

Thomas “Weed” Niederkorn 82 Years old Hastings, Minnesota On December 12th, 2020, Tom Niederkorn died peacefully in his home surrounded by family and love. He will now be out at the rock pile with “Mope”, for a planned eternal fishing adventure. Tom was born in 1938, Hastings Minnesota. He grew up with his parents and sister Audrey. He was known for being a stand out athlete at Hastings High and was a Golden Gloves boxer. He would go on to play football at Mankato State. “Weed” was also known for being a great ball player. He was one of the early pioneers playing fastpitch softball, and in 2018 was inducted into the Minnesota Softball Hall of Fame. In 1960 he married Janice Kasel. Together they would raise five children. Some things he really enjoyed are; hunting and fishing, watching baseball, time with his grandchildren, Polka Spotlight, and anything that Jan would bake. During his life Tom was employed by; Hastings Fire Department, Dakota County, Husting & Engstrom, Royal Excavating, and he owned Cannon Valley Construction. He briefly came out of retirement to help restore ball fields with Jim “Juice” Johnson, which he really enjoyed. He is survived by his bride of 60 years, Janice (Kasel) Niederkorn; Children, Julie (Rick) Schlagel, Curt (Kim) Niederkorn, John Bill (Val) Niederkorn, Neil (Roxanne) Niederkorn, Heidi Niederkorn, Gus and many Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents, Earl “Nag” Niederkorn and Henrietta (Peine) Niederkorn; Sister, Audrey (Kuhn) Niederkorn; and many of his furry friends that he adored. A private memorial will be held, and a public memorial will be planned for Spring.
