Santina R. Maras

Santina R. Maras, age 98 of Hastings, died peacefully following a brief illness on Saturday morning, July 14, 2018, at Augustana Health Care Center in Hastings. Santina was born to Anthony and Louisa (Baldoni) Romani on September 27, 1919, in Hibbing, Minnesota. Following her education at Hibbing High School, where she was a cheerleader, she trained to be a beautician. She was a hairstylist for her friends for many years. She was united in marriage to Nicholas "Nick" Maras on April 8, 1938. They were blessed with 75 years of marriage. Santina was a gifted athlete, she excelled in softball, golf, and bowling. She loved picking blueberries, teaching balance classes at the care center, and cooking phenomenal Italian meals for her family. She is preceded in death by parents; husband, Nicholas Maras; two sisters, Mary and Anita; and one brother, Joseph. Santina is survived by children, Nick (Anna Marie) Maras and Patti (Dave) Kujala; six grandchildren, Michele, Nick H., Michael, Susan, Brianna and Jordan; and many great and great great grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 p.m. Friday, September 14, 2018, at Immaculate Conception Church, 1928 Fifth Ave E., Hibbing. Interment will follow at Maple Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to Mass at church on Friday morning. Arrangements are being completed by Caturia, Smidt Starkson Funeral Home Crematory of Hastings.
