Samuel H. Hertogs

Samuel H. Hertogs, an attorney and author, age 88 of Hastings died Thursday, April 17, 2014 at Regina Medical Center. Sam was born January 28, 1926 in Minneapolis to Joseph and Naomi (Hubbard) Hertogs. He graduated from Excelsior Minnesota High School in 1944 and went on to the University of MN. Sam left college at the U. of M. in 1945 to serve in the Navy. He married Shirley J. Swanson on November 1, 1950 in Minneapolis. After completion of his military service, he completed his studies and obtained a law degree and a license to practice law. He and Ed McMenomy started a law firm in 1952, with offices in Hastings and Rosemount. That law firm continued in various forms until 1990. Sam continued to be licensed to practice law well into his retirement years. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Sally Ohley and brother Joseph Hertogs. Sam is survived by his wife Shirley; three children, Steven (Jeannie) Hertogs, Scott (Cari) Hertogs and Susan Hertogs; also six grandchildren. The Funeral Service, officiated by Gordon Gathright will be held 11 AM Monday, April 21 at the Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home, 201 East Seventh St, Hastings with visitation two hours prior to the service. A private family interment will be held at Lakewood Cemetery, Minneapolis. Military Honors will be provided by the Hastings VFW Lyle Russell Post #1210. Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.
