Rose E. Anthony

Rose E. Anthony, age 86 of Hastings died Wednesday, September 24, 2014. Rose Elizabeth was born October 29, 1927 in Marshall, Minnesota to Jules and Erma (Demeersseman) Vandermeersch. She graduated from Marshall High School, and worked at JC Penneys until she married John Anthony on May 17, 1949. They moved to Hastings in 1953 where Rose was a former Smead Manufacturing employee and also a homemaker. She was proud of her Belgian heritage and strong in her Catholic faith, where she made and donated thousands of rosaries to missions. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband John; two sons Jerry John, and Steve. Rose is survived by four daughters, Marlene (Kent) Slavik of Chaska, Linda (Vincent) Chavez of Minneapolis, Sue (Jim) Sellner of Bloomington, Wendy (Mike) Buchmann of Chippewa Falls, WI.; daughter-in-law Karen Anthony of Welch; grandchildren Tawnia (Matt) Stukel, Shannon Slavik, Jessica Slavik, Joshua (Kati) Slavik, Daniella Jonathan Chavez, Matt, Jake, Mary Jerome Anthony, David (Mandy) Sellner, Katie Sellner, Paul, Rose, Claire, Tim, Mark Sarah Buchmann; 3 great grandchildren Alysa Michelle Stukel Samantha Slavik; sister Martha Dobbelaere of Hastings. Funeral Mass, officiated by Fr. David Hennen will be held at 10:30 AM Monday, September 29th at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2035 West Fifteenth St., Hastings. Visitation will be held at the Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home on Sunday from 2:00 to 5:00 PM and for one hour prior to services at the church on Monday morning. A rosary will be recited at 4:30 PM on Sunday afternoon. Interment will be held at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery 11:15 AM on Tuesday in Assembly Area #5. Memorials can be made to St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church or Clare Bridge Memory Care of Eden Prairie, who provided her excellent care this past year.
