Richard J. Janssen

Richard J. Janssen, age 81, of Hastings, died peacefully on Monday, January 19, 2015 at the Diamond Care Center in Cannon Falls following an extended illness. Richard John, the son of John and Dorothy (Wenzler) Janssen, was born on May 24, 1933 in St. Paul. On May 24, 1952, he was united in marriage to Jean E. Kalal in South St. Paul. Richard worked for over thirty years at Ashland/ Marathon petroleum. He enjoyed volunteering at the Carpenter Nature Center and also shooting trap with his friends from work. Richard was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Jean; his daughter, Patty Swanson; siblings, Robert and Marrianne; and by his brother-in-law, Jimmy Kalal. He is survived by his children, Kathy Janssen of Cannon Falls, Bill (Wendy) Janssen of Ellsworth, WI, Dick (Dana) Janssen of Westby, WI, Jack Janssen of Cannon Falls, Len Janssen of Red Wing, and Janey Janssen of Adams, ND; his eighteen grandchildren and twenty six great grandchildren; his sister, Julie ONeil of Shoreview; his sisters-in-law, Ellen Osland of Little Canada, Joann Mueller of Woodville, WI, Eileen Biagini of Dellwood, MN; and by many other relatives and friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, January 23, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Vermillion, with Father Stan Mader officiating. Interment will be held at the Parish Cemetery.
