Richard E. Meyer, age 85 of Hastings, formerly of St. Paul passed away peacefully after a long battle with PLS on Thursday, November 22, 2012. Richard was born January 12, 1927 in Duluth, MN to Elmer and Anna (Seidl) Meyer. He served in the Army during WWII and also later in the Navy. Richard married Lavona Guldan on October 29, 1949 in St. Paul and had worked as a St. Paul firefighter for 26 years prior to his retirement. He was a member and former Grand Knight of the Hastings Knights of Columbus. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Leonard, Eileen, Arnold, and Robert. Richard is survived by his wife of 63 years, Lavona; son Arnold (Candy) Meyer of Hastings and daughter Cindy (Terry) Terhell of St. Paul Park; also 6 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. The Funeral Mass, officiated by Fr. Fernando Ortega will be held at 10 AM Friday, November 30, 2012 at St. Joseph�s Catholic Church, Miesville. Interment with Military Honors provided by the Ft. Snelling Memorial Rifle Squad will be held at National Cemetery. The visitation will be held from 5-7 PM Thursday at the Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home, 201 East Seventh St., Hastings and one hour prior to the service at church on Friday. His six grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.
