Richard Anton Scherman, age 84, resident of Macomb, MI, passed away peacefully at home on October 30th, 2021, surrounded by family after a long illness. Richard was born on November 8, 1936, in Minneapolis, MN. He was employed by and retired from the Minneapolis Star & Tribune. He married his soulmate Mary in 1972. When they both retired, they moved to Jacksboro, TN. They spent their summers in TN and wintered in South Florida until her death last year. They loved to travel and many times they would take some of their grandchildren with them, creating fond memories for the family. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of nearly 48 years, Mary (Curran); son, Joseph T. Harmon; grandson, Isaac Lucking; parents, Gertrude and Anton; sister, Delores Huber; and brothers, Ronald and Robert Scherman. Richard is survived by his children, B. Paul Harmon, Jr, Denise Scherman, Sue (Larry) McCarty, Patty (Randy) Lucking, Cathleen (Gregg) Harlan, James Harmon, Kimberly Scherman, Mary Lencowski, Daniel (Carolyn) Scherman, and Kenneth (Leigh Anne) Scherman; 28 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; and 4 great great grandchildren; brother-in-law, John Curran Jr; sistesr-in-law, Kathleen Marrin and Lil Scherman; several nieces, nephews, and extended family. The family invites you to a celebration of his life on Saturday, November 6, 2021 at Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel, 3075 Vermillion St. in Hastings. The visitation will begin at 2:30 p.m. and the prayer service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Interment will follow at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Cemetery and a reception will be held at the funeral home following the burial.
