Patricia E. "Patty" Mcdermott

Patricia E. "Patty" McDermott, age 80 of Hastings and formerly of rural Mingo, Iowa, died peacefully from natural causes on Friday morning, May 15, 2020, at Regina Senior Living in Hastings. Patricia Elaine, the daughter of Vincent and Helen (Baker) McDermott, was born on August 3, 1939, in Des Moines, Iowa. Patty grew up on the family dairy farm near Mingo and enjoyed her responsibilities of caring for the sheep and cats. Following her parents death, Patty moved to Regina Senior Living and made her home there for the last twenty-three years. Patty enjoyed playing Bingo, attending Mass, and the friends she made over the years at Regina. She was a dedicated pop-top collector for The Ronald McDonald House, and collected over 300 pounds over the years. Patty also enjoyed watching figure skating on TV, and never missed an opportunity to enjoy some Spam. Following Patty's death, Regina forever changed with her lovely personality now gone. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother-in-law, Tom Durbala; and by her great niece, Annalisa Bornhausen. Patty is survived by her siblings, Margaret Durbala of Newton, Iowa and Barbara (Bruce) Gaylor of Hastings; nieces and nephews, Dawn (Sean) Krauss, Alan (Kyra) Gaylor, Carmen (Willie) Grimm, Denise (Bill) Bornhausen, Matt (Peggy) Durbala, and Greg (Tracie) Durbala; and by many great nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends. A graveside service will be held 3:30 p.m. Sunday, May 17, 2020, at Union Chapel Cemetery in rural Mingo. Arrangements are being completed by Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel of Hastings.
