Paige O. Hammes

Paige Hammes, age 71 of New Trier and formerly North St. Paul, died peacefully on Saturday afternoon, August 5, 2017, at United Hospital in St. Paul, following a brief illness. Paige Orr, the daughter of Warren and Anita (Tente) Podgorski, was born on March 19, 1946, in St. Paul. She attended North St. Paul High School where she graduated with the class of 1964. Paige continued her education at the University of Minnesota where she studied art, and on May 17, 1969, was united in marriage to David Hammes at Bethany Lutheran Church in East St. Paul. Following their honeymoon to the North Shore, Paige and Dave moved to Hastings where she worked for a short while at JCPenneys. As their family grew, Paige took time to raise her children and later worked for Smead Manufacturing until her retirement. While working at Smead's, Paige also served as the Union President for a number of years. She enjoyed camping with Dave and their children, and never missed the Renaissance Festival! Paige also enjoyed attending craft fairs, county fairs, and garage sales too. Her gentle nature allowed her to start conversations with those around her, and often times lead into many friendships throughout her life. She was preceded in death by her parents. Paige is survived by her loving husband, David of New Trier; her three sons, Edward (Renee) Hammes of Bloomington, Matthew (Tiffany) Hammes of Eagan, and William Hammes of New Trier; her five grandchildren, Annabelle, Grace, Nathaniel, Michael, and Katarina; her brother, Scott F. Podgorski; and by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 9, 2017, at Resurrection United Methodist Church in Hastings, with Gordon Gathright officiating. Interment will be held at Union Cemetery in Maplewood. Visitation will be held 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home Cremation Services of Hastings, and will continue for one hour prior to the service at church on Wednesday morning. Arrangements are being completed by Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home Cremation Services of Hastings.
