Monica Peine

Monica Peine, age 89, of New Trier, died peacefully on Friday, January 20, 2017, surrounded by her loving family.Monica, the daughter of Joseph and Cora (Bolin) Maher, was born on August 7, 1927, in Marshan Township, Dakota County. She attended grade school at Guardian Angels and later graduated from Hastings High School with the class of 1947. Monica began working at Smeads as an office assistant prior to being a bookkeeper for a utility company. On November 21, 1950, she was united in marriage to the love of her life, Henry F. Peine at Guardian Angels Catholic Church. They made their home on the Henry Peine Farm where Monica participated in every aspect of being a true farmers wife. Whether it was cooking her well known meals for the many hired hands, or running the books, Monica loved every minute she spent working alongside Henry. She was very proud of her Irish heritage as well as her faith in the Catholic Church. Monica enjoyed the time she spent traveling, especially her many trips to Ireland. She and Henry also enjoyed many years wintering at their Florida home. Most of all, Monica was a very proud mother, grandmother and great grandmother.She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Joanne Charlton and Mary Fox; her brother, Lawrence Maher; and recently by her husband, Henry, on July 4, 2016.Monica is survived by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren; her adopted son, Paul Yung; her sister, Patricia Bauer; and by many other relatives and friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 25, 2017, at St. Marys Catholic Church in New Trier, with Father Terry Beeson officiating. Visitation will be held from 9-11 a.m. on Wednesday morning, also at church. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery. Pallbearers are Tom Peine, Eric Young, Miles Erickson, Gery Peine, Steve Wollmering and Joe Wollmering.Arrangements are being completed by Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home Cremation Services in Hastings.
