Maxon "Max" Kephart, age 79 of Hastings, died suddenly on Saturday afternoon, December 30, 2017, at Regina Hospital in Hastings. Maxon Edward, the son of Maxon J. and Vera (Oxford) Kephart, was born on July 7, 1938 in Des Moines, Iowa. Max attended Lincoln High School in Des Moines and graduated with the class of 1957. He then enlisted in the United States Army in the security agency division before being honorably discharged. On August 2, 1958, Max was united in marriage to Shirley Trapp in Des Moines; they were recently blessed with fifty-nine years of marriage. Max was a longtime employee of Brockway Glass and later retired from Owens-Illinois. He enjoyed leather tooling, spending time on his hobby farm, and wintering in Brownsville, Texas, with Shirley. He was preceded in death by his parents; and by his two sisters, Lois Teer and Elinora Gibbens. Max is survived by his loving wife, Shirley; daughters, Cheryl (Neil) Robinson, Julie (Jacques Sr.) Kustritz, and Linda Clark; grandchildren, Jonathan Robinson, Jacques II, Elaine, and Maxon III Kustritz, and Daniel, Bryan, and Lauren Clark; sister, Vonden Durham; and by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 3, 2018, at New Life Evangelical Free Church, 11245 Pt. Douglas Drive South, in Hastings, with Pastor Glenn Olson officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service at church on Wednesday morning. Interment with Military Honors provided by the Hastings VFW Lyle Russell Post 1210 will follow at Lakeside Cemetery in Hastings. Arrangements are being completed by Caturia, Smidt Starkson Funeral Home Crematory of Hastings.
