Maxine Schroeder

Maxine Schroeder, age 100 of Hastings, died peacefully on Tuesday evening, December 31, 2019, at Augustana Care of Hastings. Johanna Maxine, the daughter of Henry and Hattie (Anderson) Obermoller, was born on August 5, 1919, in Fremont, Nebraska. Following her graduation from Brewster High School with the class of 1936, Maxine was united in marriage to Walter "Walt" Schroeder on February 24, 1940. Together, they farmed and raised a family all while Maxine also worked at Montgomery Ward and was the organist at their church. In 1968, they moved to Hastings where she began working at Smead Mfg. until her retirement. Maxine and Walt enjoyed playing cards with friends, wintering in Texas, and were members of Our Saviour's Ev. Lutheran Church in Hastings. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Marjorie; half sister, Marcine; and by her husband, Walt. Maxine is survived by her loving children, Janet and Mark Hinton, Jerry and Linda Schroeder, David and Becky Schroeder, and Kathy and Gordy Pearson; fourteen grandchildren, forty great grandchildren, and fourteen great-great grandchildren and one more due very soon; sisters-in-law, Evelyn Wendling and Bonnie Schroeder; nephew, Tim and Deb Heldt; and by many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 4, 2020, at Our Saviour's Ev. Lutheran Church in Hastings, with Reverend Joel Rova-Hegener officiating. Interment will follow at Lakeside Cemetery in Hastings. Family and friends are cordially invited to a visitation for one hour prior to the service, and to a luncheon following the burial, all at church on Saturday. Arrangements are being completed by Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel of Hastings.
