On Sunday, October 10, 2021, Matthew John Wenthe, loving husband and father of four, passed away with his family by his side, following a courageous battle with cancer, at the age of 46. Matthew was born on October 20, 1974, in Princeton, New Jersey, to Dean and Linda (Arnholt) Wenthe. Matthew spent most of his childhood years growing up on the campus of Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne, Indiana. These were formative, treasured years, full of endless summers and boyhood shenanigans that his children later loved to hear stories about - pine cone wars, homerun derbies, jumping dirt bikes (sometimes over each other), hitting golf balls over the pond, and the clandestine group known as the "SIA" (Secret Investigation Association, in which Matt played the defacto leader of the daily adventure plots.) He received a degree in Construction Engineering and Management from Purdue University in 1998, where he was a member of Beta Sigma Psi Fraternity, a Boilermaker through and through. Matt worked in the commercial construction industry the rest of his life. He took pride in adding value to each job he managed and treating everyone fairly. During Matt’s final college internship in Muscatine, Iowa, he met his future best friend and bride. On June 28, 1998, he married Amy Egger. They were blessed with three sons, Zachary, Nicholas, and Trevor, and one beautiful daughter, Katelyn. The most important thing to Matthew was his faith, and he reflected God’s love in his daily life and with his family. Matt was an elder at his church for many years, and more recently enjoyed teaching Sunday School. Matt loved to travel with Amy and the children, always up for a new adventure. He taught all four kids how to golf and ski, and the art of perusing a good baseball card show. Matthew never met a golf course he didn’t like. But his favorite pastime was watching his children participate in their favorite activities, and he was enormously proud of all four of them. Matthew is survived by his wife, Amy of Rosemount, Minnesota, his four children, Zachary, Nicholas, Katelyn, and Trevor; his parents, Dean and Linda; his brothers, Timothy (Stacey), Joel (Lisa) and Joshua; his parents-in-law, Carl and Bonnie Egger; his brothers-in-law, Carl (Sue) Egger, Paul (Steph) Egger, and Thomas (Tori) Egger; his sister-in-law, Nancy Van Hemert; several aunts, uncles, and cousins, and many beloved nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 15, 2021, at St. John's Lutheran Church - Rich Valley, with Rev. Christopher Horton officiating.
