Marlene "Penny" Pettit

August 18, 1934 — March 9, 2013

Marlene C. �Penny� Pettit (nee Penrod), age 78 of Hastings, went to be with the love of her life on March 9, 2013. Penny was born August 18, 1934 in Hastings, MN to Bernard and Clara (Johnson) Penrod. She graduated from Hastings High School in 1952. She met and married her sweetheart Wallace Pettit, who she met on a blind date. They married 3 months later and together had six children. Penny was a homemaker who was instrumental in supporting Wally while he was growing his business. She was active in Brownies, card club, Hastings Women�s Club, Rivertown Lions, OSELC Lay Ministry and the Friends of LeDuc. Penny enjoyed cooking for her family and friends always trying new recipes, being especially proud of her Swedish meatballs. She loved being with family, entertaining friends, lunching with her girlfriends, going up north to Ossawinamakee, traveling to the ranch in Montana and especially shopping. She enjoyed getting together with the �39 club� and her �friends forever� group from high school. Penny was a flamboyant woman who enjoyed dressing for the occasion or holiday with her style and taste. She loved to accessorize each outfit with the perfect shoes, purse and jewelry. She never tired of shopping even when she was not feeling well. Penny also had a love for all kinds of flowers. She would get so excited for spring when the tulips came up. Summer was even better when everything was in bloom at the farm. Penny looked forward to each and every holiday as she loved decorating. Fourth of July was her favorite as she enjoyed showing her patriotism. Penny was preceded in death by her parents Bernard and Clara Penrod, husband of 50 years Wally Pettit, brother Diehl Penrod. She is survived by children Brenda (Jack) Fahey, Bruce (Lori), Dana, Dawn (Dave) Wigness, Pat and Joe (Jessica). Also her grandchildren Kelly Fahey, Danielle (Tim) Patchen, Chad Fahey, Jamie Pettit, Desiree Wigness, David Wigness, Ryan Fahey, Jackson Pettit and Jolie Pettit. Rest in peace Mom and hugs from all of us to Dad. Thank you for all the love, laughter, shopping and memories you gave to each of us. We will hold you in our hearts forever. A Celebration of Penny�s life will be held Friday, March 15, 2013 from 4:00-8:00 PM at Our Saviour�s Ev. Lutheran Church, 400 West Ninth Street, Hastings and also 1 hour prior to the funeral service 11:00 AM Saturday, March 16, 2013 at church. Please wear bright colors in her honor. Interment will follow in Lakeside Cemetery in Hastings. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to the American Diabetes Association.
