Marilyn Stenberg Thompson, age 72, of Hastings, died Saturday, October 4, 2008 at her home in Hastings after a long illness. Marilyn was born August 1, 1936 in Thief River Falls to Gladys W. (Severson) and A. Otto Stenberg. She moved with her parents to San Diego during W.W.II in connection with her father�s assignment there and later to Grand Forks, ND for a time in connection with her father�s work, but otherwise lived in Thief River Falls through high school. She graduated from Lincoln High School there in 1954 and from St. Olaf College, Northfield in 1958. Marilyn married David M. Thompson in 1958, and with him moved to Lutheran parishes in Green Bay, WI; Northfield and Hastings, MN. While raising their family, Marilyn worked in several capacitieswhich follow: first as an English teacher in Circle Pines, later as a librarian in Northfield and Hastings; as a researcher for Fallon Mcgilligott and Rice in Minneapolis; and then for many years as corporate librarian at Lutheran Brotherhood (now Thrivent Financial) in Minneapolis. She retired in 2003. Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents and husband the Reverend David M. Thompson. She is survived by sons Mark (Nancy) Thompson of Peoria, AZ and Jonathan (Shannon) Thompson of West St. Paul; four grandchildren; brother Richard Stenberg of Great Barrington, MA and brother-in-law Fred Thompson of Port Angeles, WA. The memorial service, officiated by Rev. Ed Frederick will be held at ST. PHILIP�S LUTHERAN CHURCH, 15th St. Pleasant Ave. in Hastings on Friday, October 10th at 10:00 A.M. Interment will follow in the Lakeside Cemetery.
