Melfrieda Jean Featherstone, born in St. Paul, June 28, 1927; died February 20, 2008. She's survived by her husband of 57 years, Harold. Also survived by her seven childresn; Gretchen, Bryan, Bradley, Andrea, Jo, Jan, and David; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Also survived by her sister-in-law, Gertrude Dworak and family. Her primary interests were her family and kids. She was noted for doting on the grandkids. When the kids were young, she sewed most of their clothes- an inheritance from her mother who was a master seamstress from Austria. In line with her interests and love for kids, she earned a college degree in early child development. She was also a nursery school instructor. She was active in the 'International Student Host College Program. The students were from Asia, Africa and South America; she was captivated by their customs, foods and views. In the 1960's, she was active in Civil Rights causes. She and other mothers fought and succeeded in integrating private swimming pools. A kind, loving and forgiving woman. May the Father of peace grant peace to her and all who mourn. She will be remembered for her good deeds. A funeral service will be held on Monday February 25, 2008 at 11:00am at the Wise Family Funeral Home with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
