Lorraine M. Werner, age 87 of Hastings, died peacefully following a recent illness on Monday morning, October 22, 2018, at Augustana Care of Hastings. Lorraine passed away surrounded by her loving family on her birthday. Lorraine Margaret, the daughter of Columbus and Mary (Biskupski) Freiermuth, was born on October 22, 1931, in Douglas Township, Dakota County, Minnesota. On June 7, 1950, Lorraine was united in marriage to Lawrence W. Werner at St. Marys Catholic Church in New Trier. They were blessed with ten children and an opportunity to recently celebrate sixty eight years of marriage. Lorraine was a dedicated homemaker, retired from the state of Minnesota as head of housekeeping and loved raising her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She also enjoyed canning, cooking, sewing baby blankets, and baking, especially Saturday mornings when shed make twenty-one loaves of bread and fresh cinnamon rolls. Lorraine was a skilled card player who often won without any trump, was known to pass a card or two under the table, and always had a creative way of keeping score. She will forever be remembered as the "candy grandma" to her loving grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents: siblings, Columbus (Rosie), Robert, and William; and by her children, Lawrence "Larry" Jr. on December 4, 2017, and Judith Werner on July 4, 2013. Lorraine is survived by her loving husband, Lawrence; children, Darlene (Duane) Lampman, Pat (Bob) Huneke, Joe (Linda) Werner, Cindy Freiermuth, George Werner, Roy (Barb) Werner, Mary (Jeff) Kahl, and Greg (Victoria) Werner; 18 grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, and 2 step great grandchildren; siblings, MaryAnn Otto, Rosalie (Gerald) Rother, Edward (Cindy) and Donny Freiermuth, Dorothy Brockman; sisters-in-law, Anita Freiermuth and Irma Freiermuth; and by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday morning, October 25, 2018, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Hastings, with Father Leonard Andrie officiating. Interment will be held at the parish cemetery, with a luncheon following at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. Family and friends are cordially invited to a visitation from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at Caturia, Smidt Starkson Funeral Home Crematory of Hastings, and also from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday morning at church. Arrangements are being completed by Caturia, Smidt Starkson Funeral Home Crematory of Hastings.
