Leo M. Byrne

Leo Michael Byrne, of Hastings, passed away at Regina Senior Living in Hastings on August 10, 2020. Leo was born in Lakeville to Frank and Agnes (Gilmore) Byrne on January 18, 1932. He married Viola Thurmes on October 12, 1957 at St. Mathias Catholic Church in Hampton. He was preceded in death by his wife, Viola; two infants; his parents; brothers, Francis, John and Raymond; and sisters, Agnes, Margaret, and Grace. He is survived by his children, Maureen (Mike) Quam of Hastings; Jane Byrne (Barb Price) of Smyrna, GA; Greg (Kathy) Byrne of New Trier; and Sarah (Pat) Schaffer of Eau Claire, WI; grandchildren, Nicole (Kyle) Latch, and Matt (Brit) Grundtner; Josh Quam (Lexi Roberts) and Kathryn Quam; Brandon Byrne, Melissa Vroman (Bill Bennett) and Jeffrey Vroman (Katie Kocherer); Natalie (Max) Sires, Alexis and Samantha Schaffer; 7 great grandchildren; sister, Patricia (Gene) Thurmes; many other relatives and friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, August 17 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2035 W. 15th St., Hastings. A Visitation will be held on Monday from 9:00 - 10:30 AM at Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel, 3075 Vermillion St., Hastings. Interment in the church cemetery.
