Lenora M. Ries

Lenora M. Ries, age 97, of Hastings, formerly of Vermillion died Monday, September 1, 2008 at the Regina Medical Center. Lenora was born June 19, 1911 to William and Margaret (Thurmes) Werner in Vermillion. She married John A. Ries on October 3, 1934 in Vermillion and they were married 71 years until his death in 2005. Lenora was the oldest living member of St. John�s parish. She was an active volunteer at church and women�s groups. Lenora was avid in both needlework and crocheting. She loved card playing, Bingo, gardening and was accomplished in baking and canning. She was preceded by her parents, husband, son Robert, brothers Anthony and Leonard, and sisters Florence Crapps and Rosella Bauer. Lenora is survived by her children Don (Jeannette) Ries of Richmond, TX, Mary (Ed) Lorentz of Cannon Falls, Bernie (Ron) May of Farmington, Steve (Kathryn) Ries of Roseville, CA and Jane (Tim) Stang of Hudson, WI; also 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; siblings Ernest (Viola) Werner of Vermillion, Martha (Melvin) Birk and Theresa Loesch all of Hastings, Arnold (Betty) Werner of Vermillion, and Lawrence (Lorraine) Werner of Hastings. The funeral mass, officiated by Fr. Jay Kythe will be held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Vermillion at 10:30 A.M. Friday, September 5, 2008. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The visitation will be held at the Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home, 201 E.Seventh St., Hastings from 4-8 P.M. Thursday and 1 hour prior to the service at church on Friday. The pallbearers are her grandsons Tom Lorentz, Rob Lorentz, Chuck Isenmann, David Isenmann, Dan Ries, James Ries, Michael Stang,Thomas Stang, and Mike Lorentz. Memorials may be made to St. John�s Church in Vermillion.
