Leonard Michael Weiss, age 48, of Hastings, formerly of Bloomingdale, NJ, died Sunday August 9th surrounded by his family after a five year battle with colon cancer. He is preceded in death by his parents Leonard and Phyllis Weiss. He is survived by Tara, his wife of 20 years, daughter Maggie, son Lenny, and brother Bob (Dawn) and nephew James, as well as many in-laws, nieces, nephews, friends, aunts, uncles and cousins in Minnesota and New Jersey. Lenny grew up in Bloomingdale, NJ, and went to college in River Falls, WI, where he met his future wife, Tara Donohue. Embracing his wife's Irish heritage to adopt it as his own, they were married in August 1988; their children, Margaret Ann 'Maggie,' and Leonard Thomas 'little little Lenny,' soon followed. In 2005, Lenny was diagnosed with colon cancer, and began aggressive chemotherapy treatments. Lenny loved people, and looked forward to chats with family and friends, making it a priority to help out those he loved whenever asked. He loved sports and sporting events, something he passed on to both his beloved children. Also, he enjoyed his job at Dakota County, where his many co-workers always had a smile and laugh for him. Lenny was well known for his humor, his laugh, his famous Italian cooking, love of sports and that mischievous twinkle in his eyes. A Mass of Christian Burial, officiated by Fr. Allan Paul Eilen, will be Thursday (8/13), at 11:00 am at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2035 W. 15th St., Hastings. Visitation, Wed. (8/12), from 4:00 - 8:00 pm at church, and 1 hour prior to mass at church on Thurs. Interment St. Joseph's Cemetery, Miesville. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred.
