Lawrence D Wimer

June 11, 1924 — July 24, 2014

Wimer, Lawrence Dale, age 90, passed away peacefully while under the care of hospice at his daughter's home in Goodhue county. He was a WWII veteran, serving in the Army Air Force. Except for his years in the military, Lawrence was a life-long resident of Hastings. He graduated from Hasting High School and spent much of his career working for the U.S. Postal Service. He attended Dunwoody Institute. Lawrence jointly owned and operated the Conoco gas station in Hastings. His primary avocations were mechanics and flying. He built two planes as well as an inboard boat with an engine he salvaged from the Mississippi River. He was a long time member of Calvary Baptist Church (now Calvary Christian Church) where he served for years as part of the bus ministry. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 51 years, Theodora Morrow Wimer; son, J. Patrick Morrow; parents, Clem Wimer and Laura Smith Wimer; an infant brother, Marvin. He is survived by sister, Phyllis Lothenbach (Tom); children, Jim Morrow (Jane); Charles Morrow (Ellen); Virginia Morrow Zaffke (Maurice); 7 grandchildren, Dan Morrow (Kate); Tim Morrow (Joanie); Kate Zaffke Buerer (David); Jake Morrow (Jenny); Jed Morrow Zaffke (Aafke); Julia Morrow; and Jonathan Zaffke; 11 great grandchildren, Sparrow; Sky; Sam; Dominic; Joey; Gavin; Macklin; Megan; Victoria; Issabela; Sophia; and 3 nieces, Jane; Diane; Carol; and 2 nephews, Gary; and Donnie and many cousins and friends. A Memorial Service will be held Monday, August 11, 1 pm at Calvary Christian Church, 907 15th Street W, Hastings. Reception following the service. Memorials preferred to Missionary Aviation Fellowship http://www.maf.org/history. The Wise Family Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Lawrence is interred at Lakeside Cemetery.
