Lavon Michaelson

Lavon Alvina Bertha Bauman Michaelson, age 94, of Hastings, passed away April 25, 2017 at Regina Medical Center. Lavon was born on a farm near Jasper, MN. She attended a country school until moving to high school in Jasper, where she graduated in 1940. Lavon worked as a waitress in Windy’s Caf in Jasper where she met and served her future husband, Elwood Michaelson. They were married on June 17, 1947. She continued to love and serve him for 50 more years. Lavon and Ellwood lived in Jasper, Pipestone, and Fullerton, CA until finally settling in Slayton, MN in 1955. They owned and operated Mike’s Floor Covering in Slayton for 30 years. They belonged to Trinity Lutheran Church where Lavon was active in the Dorcas Society and taught Sunday school. She moved to Redwood Falls in 2001 and to Hastings in 2007. She loved to sew, quilt, garden, bake, and spend time with her family. Lavon thought life was better when sharing rhubarb dessert or lemon pie. Levon is preceded in death by her husband, Ellwood “Mike”; parents, John and Edna Bauman; 1 brother; 1 brother in law; and 3 nephews. She is survived by her daughter, Gwen (Roger) Kulseth of Hastings; son, Jim and Cheryl Michaelson of Hadley; 2 grandchildren, Chris (Stacey) Kulseth, and Jenny (Chris) Maher; and 6 great grandchildren. A memorial service, officiated by Pastor Doug Minton, will be held on Friday (4/28) at 10:30 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church, 2105 King Ave, in Slayton. A gathering will take place one hour prior to the service a church. Private Interment, Slayton Cemetery.
