Joseph M. "Joe" Ficker, age 76 of Hastings, died Tuesday, August 2, 2016 at United Hospital in St. Paul following complications of a lung disease. Joseph M. was born October 30, 1939, in Douglas Township to Michael and Teresa (Beissel) Ficker. On May 15, 1965, Joe was united in marriage to Phyllis Reinardy at St. Marys Catholic Church in New Trier. Joe was a longtime employee at the St. Paul Ford Plant and retired in 1998 after thirty years of service. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, and loved traveling. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Stanley, Paul, Alois "Ike" and Jerome; and by his brothers-in-law, Gordon LaValla and Donald Lorentz. Joseph is survived by his wife, Phyllis of Hastings; children, Gwen Anderson of Hudson, WI, Linda (Frank) Hoffman of Hastings, Joe Ficker of Hastings and Holly (Victor IV) Emigh of New Prague; three grandchildren, Daniel Hoffman, Emily Hoffman and Alyssa Anderson; siblings, Bernadette Lorentz, Mary LaValla, Teresa (Glen) Madland, Sr. Rose Ann, SSND, Patricia (Ken) Carl and Virginia (Jack) Majeski; his sisters-in-law, Vivian Ficker and Elaine Ficker and by many other relatives and friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 6, 2016 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2035 West Fifteenth St., Hastings, with visitation held two hours prior to the service at church. Interment will be held in the parish cemetery following the luncheon. Joes family requests memorials be made to the American Lung Association, the Wounded Warrior Project, or to the donors choice in his memory.
