John Moitzheim, age 91, of Hastings, passed away on November 12, 2020 at White Pines Assisted Living. John was born on April 11, 1929 in Nothum, Luxembourg. John and his family emigrated from Nothum, Luxembourg in 1946 to a small farm in Hastings MN where John worked before starting his 40 year career with Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway as a quality and safety compliance officer. He proudly served in the Hastings volunteer guard where, in 1948, he remembers saluting Harry Truman as the president passed through Hastings on his national ‘whistle-stop’ campaign. John became a naturalized citizen in 1953. John was married to Florence Keetley on July 9, 1960. He was preceded in death by daughter, Gale Gleason; sister, Jean Schroeder; daughter-in-law, Dena Moitzheim. John is survived by wife of 60 years, Florence; children, Deb Zeien, Linda (Doug) Kuchera, David Moitzheim, and Mark (Deidra) Moitzheim; grandchildren, Dustin Kuchera, Elizabeth Kuchera, Rachel Gieser, Michelle Gleason, Matthew Moitzheim, Michael Moitzheim, Gunnar Moitzheim, and Juliet Moitzheim; and by other relatives and friends. Private family services will be held. Arrangements are being completed by Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel of Hastings.
