John Bauer, age 84 of Hastings, died peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday morning, February 19, 2020, at United Hospital in St. Paul. John Ferdinand, the son of Anton and Eva (Leih) Bauer, was born on June 24, 1935, in Hastings. Following his graduation from Hastings High School with the class of 1954, he enlisted in the Army Reserves and served for six years. John was united in marriage to Marlys J. Krismer on October 7, 1961, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in St. Paul. They were blessed with fifty-five years of marriage together and were also dedicated foster parents for many years prior to her passing on March 7, 2017. Over the years, John worked at Armour Co., and N-Ren until his retirement. He enjoyed spending time at the family cabin in Breezy Point, camping, fishing, watching the Twins, raising chickens, making homemade sausage, playing cards with family and friends at the Senior Center, and working out at the YMCA. Above all, John truly loved his family and being together as a family on Sunday's for dinner. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Rudolph "Rudy" Bauer, Barbara Robinson, and Gloria Gallet; sons, Joseph in infancy and Michael "Mike" Bauer on August 5, 2016; great grandchild, Maverick Ellingson; and by his wife, Marlys. John is survived by his children, Duane (Colleen) Bauer, Colleen "Kelly" (Doug) Franzen, and foster son, Mike Maron; grandchildren, Lindsey (Lance) Lisowski, Jenna (Pat) DeBaere, Emma Bauer, Nicole (Ryan) Ellingson, Johnny (Jen) Bauer, Alex Franzen, and Corey Franzen; great grandchildren, Logan, Landon, and Lauren Lisowski, Sasha, Dakota, and Amari Ellingson, and Kinsley DeBaere; honorary daughter-in-law, Cindy Davis; siblings, Theresa (Ken) Kossan, Anna Gydeson, Joyce Merritt, Joanne Reinardy, Diane Evans, Raymond (Joanie) Bauer, Marvin Bauer, and Ronald Bauer (significant other, Sue); and by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 29, 2020, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Hastings, with Father David Hennen officiating. Interment will be held at the parish cemetery with a luncheon following at Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel of Hastings. Family and friends are cordially invited to a visitation from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday evening at Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel of Hastings, and also at church for one hour prior to Mass on Saturday.
