John E. Ferris

John E. Ferris, age 78 of Hastings, died peacefully following an extended illness on Saturday afternoon, July 18, 2020, at Trinity Care Center in Farmington. John Edward, the son of Clifford and Josephine (Jarobic) Ferris, was born on August 2, 1941, in Waukegan, Illinois. Following his education, John enlisted in the United States Air Force where he maintained high performance jet aircraft for ten years prior to being Honorably Discharged. After being discharged, John started working as a mechanic for Sears until his retirement. He was a life member of the American Legion Post 47 in Hastings, AM Vets, and the DAV. John was a longtime member of River of Life Church in Hastings where he enjoyed being involved in many ways. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Dori; and by his dog, Bingo. John is survived by his children and by his extended family at River of Life Church. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 29, 2020, at River of Life Church in Hastings, with Pastor Neil Johnson officiating. Interment with Military Honors provided by the VFW Lyle Russell Post 1210 will follow at Lakeside Cemetery in Hastings. Family and friends are cordially invited to a visitation for one hour prior to the service at church. In lieu of flowers, John requested memorials be given to Animal Ark in his memory. Arrangements are being completed by Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel of Hastings.
