John Atvars Jr.

John Atvars Jr., age 70, of Hastings, passed away May 12, 2021. He was born in Blue Earth, MN on March 5, 1951 to John and Elsia Atvars. John attended St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran School through 8th grade and graduated in 1969 from St. Croix Lutheran High School in West St. Paul. He earned his degree of Associate Arts from the University of Minnesota in 1971. After graduation, John worked for Bailey Nursery, then the State of Minnesota. He retired in 2010 after more than 30 years of employment with the State of Minnesota. On June 21, 1981, John was united in marriage to Sharyn Morey at United Methodist Church in Hastings. John enjoyed going to the Y, watching the Twins, walking, reading, swimming and vanilla ice cream. He will be missed by his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Elsia Atvars. John is survived by his wife, Sharyn; sister in law, Arlene Morey; and brothers in law, Merle and Jeffrey Morey. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, May 19, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel, 3075 Vermillion St. in Hastings. A gathering will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials preferred. The Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel is serving the family.
