Joanne Mary Gabbert

Joanne M. Gabbert, age 73 of Hastings, died Monday, May 9, 2016, at United Hospital in St. Paul. Joanne Mary was born January 10, 1943 in St. Paul to Joseph and Dorothy (Riley) Flanagan. A 1961 graduate of Hastings High School, she married Richard Gabbert on September 7, 1963 in Guardian Angels Catholic Church. Joanne provided day care for many years locally. She dearly loved her family and grandkids, as well as her dogs. She also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, beading and loved spending time on the river and RV. Joannes favorite pastimes were garage sales, socializing, having a good time with others and various other hobbies. She was preceded in death by her parents; and by sisters-in-law, Maureen Flanagan and Jane Hanson. Joanne is survived by her husband, Richard of Hastings; children, David Gabbert of Hastings, Chris (Michele) Gabbert of Cottage Grove and Jeanne (Hal) Johnson of River Falls, WI; grandchildren, Tyler Bowers, Michael Gabbert, Mitchell Gabbert, Marcus Gabbert, Savannah Gabbert, Jason (Absey) Gabbert, Connor Gabbert, Hallie Johnson and Brooke Johnson; twogreat grandchildren, Oliver Berry and JJ Gabbert; siblings, Peggy (Jim) Caturia, John Flanagan, Mary Forsberg, Pat (Anne) Flanagan, John Hanson, Bob Hanson, Jane Hanson; also her best friend, Jan Fredline; and by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. A Celebration of Joannes Life will be held from 4-8 p.m. Saturday, May 14, 2016 with a 6 p.m. Prayer Service led by John Caturia at Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home Cremation Services, 201 East Seventh Street, Hastings.
