Jim Robert Green

July 24, 1924 — April 30, 2011

Green, Robert James 'Jim', age 86, of Hastings, passed away peacefully April 30, 2011, from complications of pneumonia at Augustana Care Center in Hastings. He was born on Nicollet Island in NE Minneapolis on July 24, 1924. He later moved to NE Minneapolis at 5th Ave. & 2nd St. He attended DeLaSalle High School in NE Minneapolis, graduating in 1942. In 1943, he joined the Navy Air Corps during WWII. He landed on air craft carriers but failed to see active duty as the war ended. After the war, he worked in power plants: Minneapolis Transit in Minneapolis; REA in Elk River; Wisconsin Power and Light in Beloit, WI; then in 1955 Koch Refining at Hastings, MN. He retired in 1987. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and spent many happy hours at his lake home near Danbury, WI. He and his wife enjoyed traveling to all the states, especially to Hawaii to visit relatives. He was a member of the American Legion in Hastings and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. The family wishes to thank Augustana Care Center for their loving care of Jim.Robert was preceded in death by parents, John L & Mary Green; sister, Marguerite Green; brother, John W. Green; nephew, John Green, Jr.; niece, Tami Basel. Survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Verna; daughter, Catherine (Gary) Ribble; son, Anthony Green; nephew, J.C. (Tracy) Green; niece, Cindy (Dan) Brown. Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday (5/5), 10:30 A.M. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2035 W. 15th St., Hastings. Visitation will be held one hour prior to mass at church. Interment, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Cemetery. Pallbearers, Tony Green, Gary Ribble, J.C. Green, Dan Brown, Ron Kocher, David Marshall.
