Jerome N. Girgen

Jerome N. Girgen, 87, passed away peacefully Thursday, December 16th, 2010 in his home in Hastings. Jerome was born to Joseph and Mary (Welsch) Girgen on March 28th, 1923 in Vermillion Township. In September of 1950, Jerome married Marcella Scharmer. They were blessed with six children: Jeanne, Roger, Dennis, Greg, Raymond and Diane. He worked many years as a machine operator for H. D. Hudson Manufacturing. Jerome had a great mechanical mind and had a reputation of 'being able to fix anything'. He was also very diligent in taking care of the graves of his loved ones, including his wife, who passed away in the summer of 1989. He was a proud member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus and enjoyed polkas, fishing, camping and traveling.He is preceded in death by his wife: Marcella; parents: Joseph and Mary; granddaughter: Angel; and siblings: Francis, Delores, and Clarence.Jerome will be sadly missed by his children: Jeanne Bignell of Hastings, Roger (Kathy) Girgen of Hastings, Dennis (Terry) Girgen of Hugo, Greg Girgen of Ellsworth, Wisconsin, Raymond Girgen of Hastings, and Diane Girgen of Eric, PA; grandchildren: Raquel Anderson, Jerome 'Jerry' Bignell, Nicholas Girgen, Christina Girgen, Nicole Girgen, Nicole Krause, Christopher Girgen, and Jessica Girgen; great grandchildren: Danyelle, Gage, Dane, and Zander; siblings: Phillip Girgen of St. Paul and Rosemary of Hastings; many nephews, nieces, other relatives and good friends.Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, December 29th, 2010 at 11am at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church of Hastings. Visitations will be one hour prior to the start of mass and on Tuesday, December 28th, 2010 from 4pm to 8pm at the Wise Family Funeral Home, 400 Spring Street, Hastings. Burial will follow mass at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Cemetery.
