Jerome Bernard Hoeschen, age 86, of Hastings died peacefully at home on June 10, 2015. Jerry was born on June 5, 1929 to Mortiz and Josephine Hoeschen in St. Joseph, MN. Jerry served stateside in the United States Navy during World War II. He returned home and married Genevieve Macheska on September 29, 1950 at Guardian Angels Church in Hastings. Jerry was employed by Graus Construction where he had the opportunity to work on "Old Blue" in Hastings. He later worked for Milwaukee Railroad, was a security guard at the Hastings Tank Farm, and later 3M where he retired in 1980. After retirement, Jerry owned and operated Holzemers Shoes in downtown Hastings for many years. He had a passion for the outdoors, hunting, and fishing which he used to teach many as a Scoutmaster for Hastings Boy Scout Troop #503. Jerry was privileged to have 7 scouts inducted as Eagle Scouts in one Court of Honor. He also had a passion for woodworking, bird watching, and playing cards. Jerry also dedicated his time to the Downtown Business Association in Hastings, where he served as President and was a member of the East Hastings Lake Isabel Association. He is preceded in death by his parents; an infant son; sister, Mary Simonson; his brothers-in-law, Bud Simonson, Leo Loesch, Gene Smith, Leldon Collins; grandson, Cale Anger; and nephew, David Simonson. Jerry is survived by his wife of 64 years, Jenny; his children, Mike (Joan) of Max, MN; Kevin (Lynn), Jim (Michele), Janet (Dan) King all of Hastings, and Richard (Kathy) of Homer, AK; as well as 13 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. Jerry is also survived by his siblings, Evelyn Loesch, Rosann Collins, Joann Smith, Ken (Betty) Hoeschen; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Mass of Christian burial will be held 10 AM on Monday, June 15 at St Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2035 West Fifteenth St., Hastings, with Father David Hennen officiating. A visitation will be held from 2-5 PM Sunday, June 14 AT CHURCH in Mother Seton Hall. Interment will be held at the Parish Cemetery, with Military Honors provided by the Hastings VFW Lyle Russell Post 1210.
