Jeanne M. Bignell

Jeanne M. Bignell, age 70, of Hastings, passed away December 31, 2021. Jeanne was born in Hastings to Jerome and Marcella (Scharmer) Girgen and was very proud of being born on Friday the 13th of 1951. She married Raymond Bignell in Hastings on July 31, 1971. They were later divorced. Jeanne worked for many years and retired from Smeads. After retirement, she went to work for Walmart and then for the Hastings Bus Company, where she enjoyed her co-workers and job very much. She had many hobbies and interests including, sewing, crocheting, scrapbooking and collecting knick nacks. She also enjoyed spending time baking, cooking and going out to eat. Jeanne loved to watch and feed the birds. She was a frequent visitor at the Casino and absolutely loved the holiday season. Jeanne loved her family and friends most of all. She was loving, caring and kind to everyone. She considered many people in her life family and they all loving referred to her as "mom" or "grandma". She will be missed by many. Jeanne is preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Anita and Mary; son in law, Tony Bruner; niece, Angel Kelly; and foster daughter, Cindy Matz. She is survived by her children, Raquel Bruner and Jerome Bignell (Linda Burr); grandchildren, Danyelle, Gage (Ashlyn), Dane, Lexii, Thaddeus (Julia), Jake (Gabrielle), Brent, Tina, Krissy, , and Alyssa; great grandchildren; Luna and Aria; siblings, Roger (Cathy) Girgen, Dennis (Teri) Girgen, Raymond Girgen, Greg (Kathleen) Girgen and Diane Girgen; special friend, Curt Thorson; and many other relatives and friends. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, January 15, 2022 at 2:00 PM at Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel, 3075 Vermillion St. in Hastings. A visitation will be held from 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM at the funeral home on Saturday. Burial will follow at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Cemetery in Hastings. Because of Jeanne's love of the holidays, you are invited to wear your favorite holiday shirt or sweater to her visitation and funeral. Immediately following the burial there will be a reception at the Eagles Club in Hastings, please bring a dish to pass.
