Jeanette "Jean" State, age 77 of Hastings, died peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on Friday evening, January 12, 2018. Jeanette Christine, the daughter of DeVanney Sr. and Vivian (Smith) Kellogg, was born on May 17, 1940, in St. Paul. Following her graduation from Johnson High School in St. Paul with the class of 1958, Jean was united in marriage to Marvin "Jack" State on November 17, 1962, at Christ Lutheran Church in St. Paul. They were blessed with three children, Kari, Mike, and Rebecca, and recently celebrated fifty-five years of marriage. Jean began her modeling career as a young adult, and continued with her passion as a seamstress throughout her life. She owned and operated "Pigtails and Petticoats" in downtown Hastings, and cherished the friendships she gained along the way. Jean also enjoyed painting, sketching, sewing, and most of all, spending time with her grandchildren. Her compassion for others continually showed in her actions of taking care of others before herself by caring for others at various group homes and daycares, as well as her many years of teaching various sewing classes in the community. Jean loved everyone, and was a great wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many. She was preceded in death by her parents. Jean is survived by her loving husband, Jack; children, Kari (Robert) Dickerson, Mike (Denise) State, and Rebecca (Dan) Jablonski; grandchildren, Alexander Dickerson, Chloe State, and Scarlett Jablonski; brothers, DeVanney (Jan) Kellogg Jr., Jerry (Carol) Kellogg, and Jim Kellogg; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. A Celebration of Jeans Life will be held from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. Saturday, January 20, 2018, at Schaars Bluff Gathering Center at Spring Lake Park Preserve, 8395 127th Street East, in Hastings. In lieu of flowers, Jeans family requests memorials be made to Allina Hospice in her memory. Arrangements are being completed by Caturia, Smidt Starkson Funeral Home Crematory of Hastings.
