Jean Marie Nelson

Jean M. Nelson, age 83, of Hastings, died peacefully September 2, 2021, with her family at her side, at Hastings Health and Senior Living. Jean Marie, was born July 4, 1938 on a farm near El Paso, WI to Carl and Marie (Weber) Shafer. After her family was raised Jean went to work for Fortis Insurance Company until she retired. She greatly enjoyed spending time with family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also loved to dance, play cards and play Bingo with family and friends. Jean is preceded in death by her parents, 2 sons Kenneth and Jim, and 3 brothers Robert, James and Ron Shafer. She is survived by her children Catherine (Paul) Gelhar,Steve Nelson, Jeff Nelson and Connie Albertson (significant other Jeff Pavelka); 5 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren; 6 sisters Joann Brenner (significant other George Machesney), Mary (Mike) Casey, Judy (Doug) Harer, Lana Anderson, Bonnie (Ron) Drabowicz, and Kathleen Shinn. Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, September 7, at 11:00 AM at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2035 15th Street West, Hastings, MN with Fr. David Hennen officiating. A visitation will be held at the church from 10:00-11:00 AM. Interment will take place at the Parish Cemetery. Arrangements are being completed by Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel of Hastings.
