Jared Davis

April 19, 1989 — July 13, 2020

On Monday, July 13, 2020, Jared Jeffery Davis passed away unexpectedly at his home, at the age of 31. Jared was born on April 19, 1989 in Bangor, Maine to Jeffery and Sherry (Herrick) Davis. As many knew, there were multiple medical issues Jared dealt with throughout his life and he couldn’t do some of the things we take for granted every day. When some people met Jared, that is what they saw — the things he couldn’t do. But that’s not what his family and friends saw, and that’s not who he was. Instead we saw the many things he could do. He could smile. He could laugh. He could feel unbridled happiness. He could love without condition and he could show his love without even saying a word. Not everyone has those abilities. Jared was a positive influence and a shining star to those who knew him. We could look to Jared as an example of perseverance and inner strength. His endurance and strength in body, mind and soul were so admirable. Jared attended the Minnesota State Academy for the Deaf (MSAD) in Faribault, Minnesota, and graduated with the class of 2008. He thoroughly enjoyed belonging to the deaf community at MSAD and not only did he receive a great education, he also benefited from its cultural experience. Jared brought the beauty of American Sign Language into our lives. Jared was a peace-maker and he loved unconditionally. Unconditional love means loving even when it hurts. Even when it is not easy. It’s loving because you simply can’t help but love. To nurture someone so completely takes a dedication and depth of love that is hard to comprehend for those who haven’t done it. It is truly loving without condition, and it is perhaps the most beautiful and pure example of love that exists. He made that kind of love exist. He made it possible. His ability to bring people together and his mischievous smile will be forever remembered. His love of others and his faith in God was very apparent. Jared loved life! His greatest joy was to visit family and friends. He liked to keep his visits short and he left everyone wanting more. He gave the best hugs and “I love you” signs. Jared had a great connection with horses, riding since he was 5 years old. He had an innate ability to communicate with horses in an unspoken language. When he was able, he loved to travel, especially by air. He remembered when they actually served food on planes. His travels included California, Florida, Maine, Mexico and Hawaii. He loved to go on road trips to South and North Dakota to visit family and friends. He enjoyed walking, fishing, painting and wood projects. He was excellent at video games. He was most content in a rocker recliner with a Pepsi in his hand. He loved being in his outdoor rocker recliner watching the beautiful St. Croix River at his home in Prescott. Jared also gave us the gift of perspective. He reminded us that most of our problems are not really problems, and to be grateful for what we have. We must savor the sweet and beautiful moments we have every day, because ultimately life is fragile and someday all too soon, we must say goodbye. Jared was a gentle soul who treasured every day on earth. We can mourn the loss of his life while celebrating the life he led and the lessons he gave us. The best gift he gave us was his very life. He was a gift. For the ways he taught us about life and love, for the ways he inspired us to be better, and for all the love he gave while he was here with us, he was a gift to each of us. May we never forget this beautiful gift. May we honor his memory and give strength and support to his loved ones as they find their way in this world without him. Jared is survived by his parents, Sherry and Rob Kulla of Prescott, Wisconsin and Jeffery and Kim Davis of Cutler, Maine. He will be greatly missed by all, including many dear aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family and friends — especially Lola and Gene Lewandowski and family, special grandparents Don and Mary Kay Kulla, Grandma Joy and Aunt Jane, Paulette and Brad Pyan, and countless other wonderful friends and family, as well as his PKT Enterprise friends and healthcare providers. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Stanley and Lillian Herrick and Roger and Amelia Davis, his sister, Jennifer Davis, and various aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He is with them now and will be waiting to welcome us into Heaven. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, July 18th, 2020 at Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel, 3075 Vermillion Street in Hastings, MN.
