James L Grier

James L. Grier, an avid reader and airplane enthusiast, of Hastings, passed away at United Hospital on August 23, 2016. He was 90 years old. James was born in Hayfield, MN on January 24, 1926 to Roy and Esther Grier. He married Joan Langenfeld at Guardian Angels Catholic Church in Hastings on January 13, 1951. James enjoyed eating breakfast with his friends at the Legion, and spending time at his cabin in Siren, WI. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Sue; son, John; parents; sister, Margie; brother, Lee; and son in law, Mark Peterson. James is survived by his wife of 65 years, Joan; children, Becky Matsch, Scott (Sharon) Grier, Jill (Wayne) Brandt, Brigitte (Jerry) Frandrup, Shannon (Fred) Brandt, Johanna (Bruce) Perry; 14 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren and 1 on the way; sister, Karen (Edwin) Harper; nieces, nephews and friends. A Mass of Christian Burial, officiated by Fr. TJ McKenzie, will be held on Monday (8/29) at 12 noon at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 203 W. 15th St., Hastings. A visitation will be held 2 hours prior to mass at church. Pallbearers are Christopher Brandt, Wesley Matsch, Jeremy Brandt, Eric Brandt, Brett Frandrup, Travis Grier, and Jeffery Perry. Interment, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Cemetery. Military Honors provided by VFW Lyle Russell Post 1210. The Wise Family Funeral Home is serving the family.
