James "Jim" Schwieger

James "Jim" Schwieger, age 68 of Cottage Grove, died peacefully on Monday, December 19, 2016, at White Pines Senior Living of Cottage Grove, following a recent illness. James Julius was born to Benjamin and Barbara (Regelman) Schwieger on April 27, 1948, in Red Wing, Minnesota. He was a 1966 graduate of Prescott High School in Prescott, WI, and served 10 years in the Army Reserves. James was a former employee of Armor Company in South St. Paul and the flour mill in South Minneapolis for 40 years. He was a huge car lover, and was an original owner of a 69 Corvette, winning an award in for this entry in Stillwater. James was also a cribbage player who enjoyed the competition of the game. He was preceded in death by his parents and uncle, Walter Fischer. James is survived by his longtime companion, Linda; his siblings, Dave (Billie) Schwieger, Robert (Karen) Schwieger and Brenda Schwieger; his aunt, Alice Fischer; his special friends, Al and Kenny; as well as many other relatives and friends. Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, December 22, 2016, at Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home Cremation Services, 201 Seventh Street East, Hastings, with Gordon Gathright officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Thursday. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Red Wing.
