James "Jim" Ironside, age 96 of Hastings, died peacefully on Thursday, October 27, 2016 at the Prescott Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Prescott. James was born May 14, 1920 in Browns Valley, MN to John and Erdna (Kuschel) Ironside. He was a graduate of Chokio High School in Chokio, MN and served in the Army Air Force during WWII in North Africa. Jim married Arloa Blackwelder on June 10, 1950 in Chokio. He had learned the welding trade from his father who owned a blacksmith shop in Chokio and had worked as a welder in various cities. They moved to Hastings, MN in 1959 where Jim worked for St. Paul Ammonia Company in Pine Bend, MN until his retirement. Jim was a member of the Hastings Masonic Lodge #7 and American Legion Post #1210. He enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing in Canada and flying. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Arloa in 2006; sister, Marilyn Dunn and an infant brother, Kenneth Ironside. Jim is survived by his two sons, Scot (Kay) Ironside and Thomas (Darla) Ironside; brother, John (Dianne) Ironside; four grandchildren, Jim (Mallory) Ironside, Meredith (Mike) Steininger, Adam Ironside and Peter Ironside; also one great granddaughter, Madeline Ironside and many nieces and nephews. Jims family has honored his request for donation of his body for medical research. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the University of Minnesota Anatomy Bequest Program; U of M Medical School; 3-005 Nils Hasselmo Hall; 312 Church Street S.E.; Minneapolis, MN 55455. .
