James F. Munsen

James F. Munsen, age 76, of Hastings died unexpectedly Saturday, April 19, 2014 at his home. James was born July 30, 1937 in Red Wing, MN to Milo and Gratia (Dunn) Munsen. He was a 1955 graduate of Prescott, WI High School and served in the U.S. Air Force. Jim married Patricia Johnson on May 7, 1960 at Guardian Angels Church in Hastings. He had worked 41 years at 3M in Cottage Grove prior to retirement, and later worked part-time at Gopher Hills Golf Course. Jim loved to travel and thoroughly enjoyed his morning and afternoon coffee groups. His grandchildren and children were his joy. He loved all sports, especially golf, the Twins and Vikings. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Jack. James is survived by his wife Patricia; four children Jim (Liz) Munsen, Jill (Mike) Wagner, Jeff (Kim) Munsen and John (Isabel) Munsen; ten grandchildren Luke, Abby and Katie Wagner, Meghan (Brian) Kaphing, Andy, Casey, Kelly, Derrick, Claudia and Isabella Munsen; great grandchild Lauren Kaphing; sisters Julie Seeley and Jane Mandelkow; sister-in-law Doris Munsen; also other relatives and many friends. The funeral Mass, officiated by Fr. James Perkl will be held 11:00 AM Monday, April 28 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2035 Fifteenth St. West, Hastings. Visitation will be held 3-6 PM Sunday at the Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home, 201 East Seventh St, Hastings and one hour prior to the service at church. Interment, with Military Honors provided by the Hastings VFW Lyle Russell Post #1210 will be in the parish cemetery. Jims grandchildren will serve as his pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
