Harold J. Raway

Harold J. Raway, age 91 of Hastings, died peacefully on Thursday, April 13, 2017, at Regina Senior Living, in Hastings. Harold J., the son of Peter and Josephine (Brockman) Raway, was born on May 23, 1925, in Hastings. Following his education, Harold returned to the family farm in Vermillion. He was a quiet and gentle man. Harold was a lifelong farmer, a wood worker and craftsman. On October 4, 1947, he was united in marriage to Anna K. Langenfeld at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Vermillion. They were blessed with six children and sixty years of marriage prior to her passing on February 18, 2008. He was preceded in death by his parents, by his wife, Anna Raway, his grandson, Brian Fanslow, great grandchildren, Benjamyn Fanslow, Kayden Kellen Kleen; his sister, Loretta Frandrup; and his brother, Jack Raway. Harold is survived by his six children, Marcianne (Fred) Fanslow of Red Wing, Marilyn (Tom) Maher of Hastings, Stephen (Carol) Raway of North Carolina, Joe (Helen) Raway of Hastings, Virginia (Chuck) Stemig of Hastings, and Gordon (Sara) Raway of Hastings; his 17 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren; and by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 19, 2017, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Vermillion, with Father Cole Kracke officiating. Interment will follow at the parish cemetery. Visitation will be held at church from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday. Pallbearers Amanda Dunkel, Stephanie Peterson, Heather Von Itter, Jason Raway, Alex Raway and Matt Fanslow. Arrangements are being completed by Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home Cremation Services of Hastings.
